About Brantwood
Brantwood Camp provides a fun, positive camping experience for boys and girls–from a variety of backgrounds–who would not otherwise have had the opportunity. A non-profit camp that has been operating for over 120 years, our goal is to give as many kids as possible the chance to experience camp. Brantwood offers a program that focuses on leadership; character development; and team building. We also strive to provide campers with several Access Opportunities through our challenge course, adventure programming, and field trips.
The Goals of Brantwood Camp are to:
- Foster personal growth through the values and standards that are expressed by the traditional Five Brantwood Ideals: Honesty, Loyalty, Cooperation, Good Sportsmanship, and Unselfishness.
- Promote social adjustment and mutual respect among a diverse group through a challenging and competitive program.
- Develop character, confidence, and independence physically, intellectually, and emotionally.

B Jersey Competition
The Brantwood Program runs on a foundation of a camp-wide competition called The B Jerseys where cabins compete in several sporting events, inspection competitions, individual challenges, and scores on sportsmanship for the high scoring cabin at the end of the term. The competitive nature of our program promotes team work, leadership, and communication amongst campers. The variety of activities and competitions gives all campers a chance to showcase their talents as they compete in diverse competitions to hone in on different skills.
Character Development
The five Brantwood Ideals are: Honesty, Loyalty, Cooperation, Good Sportsmanship, and Unselfishness. Our whole program revolves around the core of our five ideals and promotes rich character development. You’ll note that our competition areas rely on good sportsmanship and cheerful enthusiasm, cleanliness, and studying and preparing for challenges, all things that make up a well-rounded person.
In addition to our group competitions, we give awards every term and summer to campers based on their character. These awards are given for exceptional leadership, unselfishness, and helpfulness to others. These awards celebrate campers for acting as leaders and helpers at camp. Our programming is consistently teaching campers how to be leaders, and how to communicate and build connections across streams of differences.
Adventure Program
Brantwood Camp offers an expansive Adventure Program to our campers that promotes team work, communication, and personal development. Cabins will participate in team building activities to strengthen their trust in each other before going to our challenge course where they’ll engage in team work activities on our low elements. At the end of the term campers will have the opportunity to engage in ‘challenge by choice’ activities on our high ropes course where they’ll challenge themselves to climb to higher elements.
Our Challenge Course activities are facilitated by well trained and experienced ropes course facilitators who teach campers about safety on the course and prioritize camper safety during activities. Additionally, our Challenge Course facilitators are supervised by an experienced and well-versed administrator.
Campers are also given the opportunity to hike trails and mountains in the Monadnock Region. The highest peak offered is Mt. Monadnock which is reserved for our senior campers and offers campers the experience of conquering difficult terrain and feeling pride in their accomplishments.
All campers also enjoy a one-night tent camping experience at our beautiful lake front property, where they learn to canoe and kayak. The lake is fresh and clean and the campers enjoy swimming as well. We have life guards on duty anytime a camper is in or near the lake. In the evening staff cook dinner on an open fire, campers make s’mores, and experience the quintessential outdoor thrill of camping out!
Leadership Development
We offer two expansive leadership curriculums for eligible campers and staff members every summer. Fifteen year old campers are all welcomed to join our Leaders in Training Program which is a term long experience where our oldest camper participate in workshops and leadership training that will help them grow as leaders on camp and set them up for success in leadership both at camp and in their personal endeavors. All campers who pass the LIT program will be offered a position as a Junior Counselor the following summer.
Sixteen and seventeen year olds are eligible for employment at Brantwood as Junior and Middle Counselors. This two year employment experience is a paid position that pairs with a leadership curriculum where our youngest staff learn to lead groups of campers; hone in on professional etiquette; learn and develop important tenants of advocacy; and grow in their independence as they prepare to be counselors when they turn 18. Our JC/MC Coordinator will work closely with everyone in the program, offering seminars, observations, and coaching to help JC/MCs grow and reach their full potential.
Aquatics Program
Each campus has a beautiful pool that is utilized several times in a day. In the morning swim periods campers are offered swim lessons for a range of abilities from beginner to experienced. Campers are given the opportunity to free swim in the afternoon as well.
In addition to our pools Brantwood has a beautiful lake front property on Silver Lake, and all campers take trips to the lake to enjoy the fresh water, canoeing and kayaking, and swimming out to our raft.
Each campus is staffed with several well trained instructors and lifeguards who prioritize water safety and surveillance. Additionally, all campers take swim tests on the first day of the term to determine their swimming abilities and whether or not they’re safe to go in the deep end. As campers take swimming lessons throughout the term they’ll have the opportunity to retake their swim tests.
What Our Campers and Parents Say
Brantwood holds a special place in my heart. All the boys in my family went, including my father. I have fond memories of being there as a camper and counselor in the 80's.
Alumni
I went to brantwood last year and loved it! First time being away from family and it was hard but the counselors were amazing at comfort. I got in the car and said can I go back next year? It’s like being in a big happy family. Can’t wait to go tomorrow!
